New small quilt

I finished the Temecula anniversary quilt. I see they did add a revision to the corner and setting triangles. Some times I think it is just me or that I sew my seams wrong or something, just glad it wasn't all in my mind. Don't play tricks on us old farts, our eyes and our minds do that to us already! Anyway , here is the pic......

i put a red backing with the same binding. I quilted in the ditch on both sides of the sashings.

I also put all three Raspberry Rabbit blocks together.

I also did my block for Pam Buda's bow for http://heartspunquilts.blogspot.com

Black always looks elegant!  I'm off to make waffles , have a good day!  martha

Thought I Would Share

For any of you that might be finishing up your anniversary quilt from Temecula , A friend of mine from Illinois and I both ran into same problem with measurements of corner triangles and setting triangles.  Instead of 7 1/2"  square cut triangle cut twice for setting triangle, I  ended up using them for the corner triangles. For the  setting triangles I used 8 1/2"  square cut twice diagonally .  I think they forgot that the 4 1/2"  blocks have 1 1/2"  sashing on each side.  Could be just my mistake but I don't think so.  Tell me if you had same problem of triangles being to small.  I had not finished block four and five so I will show you now.

Finished my grand daughter's zebra minkee pillowcase and it is on it's way to her.

Finished my third block for Raspberry Rabbits free bom quilt.

Also if you take a peek over at Pam Buda's blog , she has a weekly sew-a-long that might intrigue you.

Don't want anyone to go thru withdrawels!
Kim Diehl will have a new book out in May called "Simple Charm Book".  I am a fan of her books,so looking forward to it.  Enjoy what you do or find something new! All for now, martha

Falling off the Radar

I bet you were wondering where I have been. Well My daughter and her family came for a surprise quickie (sort of) visit.

So my husband and I were having fun showing them around town and shopping.  We had a great time catching up.

If you stay on my blog now for more than 30 seconds you will find that I have added some music to my blog. This was not achieved by myself. My eleven year old granddaughter showed me how to do that.  She has music on her two blogs.  She showed me a few other things too.  She also is a budding artist also.  We did some shopping together and she picked out some zebra print minkee for a very special pillowcase.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get back on track and get some sewing done.  Family first!!! But I sure did miss doing a little sewing every day. Guess it is just the routine.

The more cheerful you try to be , the less there is to disswade you from that cheerful outlook!! Hang in there!  All for now, martha

Esther The Easter Chicken

Remember this? This pattern is Esther The Easter Chicken  by Carolyn Hughey.  Hopefully if you google this you might be able to find the pattern .   It would not be right of me to send any one a copy of this pattern even though I recieved it free  with out the owner's permission.  So there is the info and best of luck.

I have added a chickenwire border to mine.

This is the backing.

I am presently layering it together to get it ready for quilting.

This is what Carolyn Hughey's looked like!

Spring has Sprung

I went today to get my hair cut and run a few other errands.  Only needed a sweater, no coat!! So many motorcycles out and kids skate boarding  and people actually out walking.  Just had to check and make sure that I was still in Minnesota and this was March!

I guess we all have spring fever of sorts.  I have started a few things for spring. First one done was a wool felt  candle mat.

Then I started a table runner for Easter that I found on the internet last year and did not do.  I have put all the pieces down and made the patckwork basket.  I have just started doing the satin stitch around  some pieces but have not finished. Then will have to sew on border,  but thought I would give you a sneak peek.

Of course today there was another basket block from Temecula Quilt Co.  And I just had to do that also. This makes number # 3 .  Are you keeping up?

I am off to enjoy some of this great weather. Live long and sew straight, martha

A Rode Less Traveled

A little departure from my normal sewing , it is a small wallet . For all those cards we have from the quilt and fabric stores.

A see-thru pouch for sewing supplies.  You know , scissors, rotary cutter, pins and such.

My husband has been busy in the garage lately!

Found these scattered around my room.

See I did not stray so far as to get lost.

Temecula

Today the weather is playing jokes on Minnesota or is having a temper tantrum with mother Earth.  It started out raining , then switched to snowing. It is now a balmy 50 with the sunny sky above, almost looking like spring.

The second block for Temecula quilt co. is up.  Yes it is already thursday!

http://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com

Here is mine.

And I must show you some fabric that I thought was super cute.

I am sure I can find something to do with it.
In case you haven't noticed I am coming up on my 100th post soon.  Hey Hey! I will have to have a special give-a-way for that. So keep your eyes open.  Talk  to you later, Martha

More Shamrocks

I finished doing handwork on the shamrock on my third block in Aurifil's block of the month.

I then proceeded to quilt qnd put a small binding on my green basket quilt. I also sewed some stacked  yo yo's  with a button topper on two of the blocks. Now tonight I may sit in my chair and handsew back  down.

I then proceeded to finish the basket top for my small quilt group that is on-line. It was made out of Kansas Troubles except for the beige polka dots  in backround of baskets. It is layered and waiting to be quilted.

I will be traveling back home next month and I have a few birthday presents to make in the meantime.
So the next few weeks will definetly be busy .  Hang on to your seats, it will be a bumpy ride!  martha

Forge Ahead

I have my dresden plate finished ,so I may spend a little more time on other things. So hence I am forging ahead.  I finished my block of the week for  temecula quilt co.  Hope you will join in this too!  It will be a small quilt. Meet you there thursdays in march.

I also got my Aurifil block of the month ready to stitch.

I finished block nine on my henrietta whiskers quilt by ann sutton.

So then I was able to add it to the rest of the blocks. WaaLaa! Center is finished!

Then I added the two borders.  Now I have to prepare 5 crows and seven stars to applique in the borders.

So it is not finished yet.  Plus I like a pieced backing I use up all the extra fabric left over and perhaps add a little new stuff to create a little more interesting backing.

How do you know what you can do until you try?  So forge ahead my friends.  martha

Yo YO"s

I am making yo yo's today with my yo yo makers. Don't know what that is you say! Well take a gander at these .

And I do believe there is still one a  size larger.

So that you can make yo yo's of all sizes.  To start  you need a piece of fabric 1/2 " bigger all the way around.  It can be square or round. there are two pieces to yo yo maker which must be snapped apart so that you may place fabric in between them.

To place it with right side facing down in larger piece so that wrong side faces you. Then place top portion on top with lines on top lining up with small knobs of plastic.

At this point trim off excess, by leaving 1/2 inch all the way around. With needle inserted in first hole to left of any of the knobs  go around in a circle from side that is under neath where right side of fabric lays.

Go completely around and over 2 stitches previously stitched. Then pop out center.

Fabric may then be pulled off center piece and pulled taught to form a circle.

Once tightened I take a stitch thru to other side and stay-stitch with a couple of stitches so that it will not pull loose and cut thread off.

This can be done while watching tv at night  and you can use your scraps up.  It lets you do something useful with them.

Shamrocks

I am getting ready for the wearin 'o the green .  I have been putting together shamrock blocks.

Now that i have four put together , I must  make a decision on what to make with them.  I could make a table topper (square)   or a runner.

What sewing are you up to today? Something green?

Enjoy your weekend.   martha

Happy March 1st

Hope everyone is safe and sound.  Here in central Minnesota we only had 5-6 inches of snow compared to the 14 inches they were predicting.  My mother lives about 30 miles from Harrisburg , Illinois where they had tornados.  Thankfully she is safe.

I put my January  and February Raspberry Rabbits together.

This is small basket quilt with green baskets . I am thinking about putting buttons on it.  I  will try and quilt it tomorrow.

Did  block # 19 and now ready for 20 and 21 which downloaded today.

http://temeculaquiltcompany.blogspot.com has a free block of the week starting today and each thursday of the month of March.  Stop and take a look.
Be safe and don't mess with the weather.  Martha
