I have also done a little straightening in the sewing room in anticipation of company for Thanksgiving.  I am presently making binding for my hexagon one block wonder or kaleidoscpe quilt.  Thanks for stopping by, Martha.

How Bad?

How   bad can it be when I spend most of the day cleaning house? There are only two of us.  BAD! Yuck! Dusting in living room done . Bathroom tub and tile clean. Bathroom floor scrubbed. First load of laundry done and put away. Second load in dryer. It's my day off! Women don't get a day off ! Back to work I must go vaccuming  and then there the oven that gets a good cleaning before that turkey goes in it and the  holiday baking begins. It is going to be a long day. Chatter later, much later, Martha.

Mrs. Hartigan's Stash

Image
I have just completed the first of four applique blocks for my new quilt.  It is called Mrs. Hartigan's Stash. It is a rectangle now but will actually be a diamond when inserted into quilt. Besides applique the rest of the quilt is English Paper Pieceing. (diamonds). My daughter called a week ago and asked for a candle mat with a  Christmas flavor.  So I finished up the one I had started in October and sent it to her. Off to work now, chatter later, Martha.

I go to a quilt club at the other quilt store in town ( not the one I work at!) . We are called the Third Saturday Club. I think we should be called Brenda's ladies group. But no on e asked me. Pretty Pics

Image
When I went to work yesterday  I took my camera with me. I took a few pics that I thought I would share with you all.  The first is a pic of two versions of a wall quilt (pattern by Moda ) called "In from The Cold". We had open sewing on thursdays and have just finished with that. Susan (the owner of shop) made these. I like the black and yellow one best, what about you? Next are some pics of new things from Cherrywood Hand Dyes. They are very innovative and modern, I really like them. Don't I live in a wonderful enviroment?  Chit chat later, Martha.

Hand Stitching Slow Down

Image
Yes I have been doing a lot of hand stitching and it has been crimping my style as it has really slowed me down! I finished quilting my "Hourglass " quilt and put the binding on it . It makes a nice lap quilt for someone chair-bound, or just sitting and watching tv. I also have been working at my "Hexie" quilt. I have been putting it on my backround. This top will be totally hand sewn. On the wider black side will be some hand applique. Only have to finish the two ends where they are pinned down. Sue Carroll came by today and picked up two older sewing machines  that I donated to her for her volunteer work. She not only teaches women to make quilts at the local jail but other life lessons also . Not only that ,  but also to do something not just for yourself, but also to share and help one another and get along. Many of these lessons were never learned growing up with these women. Sue has a great deal of patience  to deal with these women and

Dreary Days

Image
IT is overcast here the past few days. Even though daylight savings it is still darker than one would like. At least on the bright side there is no snow yet! Just cold.  I have  joined a swap this year , a secret santa swap. I have everything wrapped in fat quarters and stuffed into a mailing envelope . So that is already to address and ship! I decided to quilt my "Hourglass" quilt from "Angles With Ease" myself. I did three lines of straight stitching in the red  zig zag of the quilt. I now also have the binding sewn onto the front and just have to finish  hand sewing it to the back. the back This weekend there is a big arts and crafts show at the local high school and at several churches. So with all the inspiration it will be very busy at work! Chatter with you later,Martha.

Can't Leave It Alone!

Image
I cut out a small quilt from  "Angles With Ease" book by Heather Mulder Peterson called Hour Glass. I thought at first I would get a little head start.  And Time just got away from me and before I knew it I was finished with the top! So now I have nothing cut out for the sew-in!   I will still go to listen to her presentation, but am skipping the next day sew-in. I will go to the  next meeting of the  tuesday morning group and get it basted.  They have those big church tables to lay tops on. I don't have space that big. Hope all had a safe Halloween, Martha.
