What can you do with nine fat quarters?

Apparently quite a bit!  I cut each fat quarter up into 2 1/2 " strips which are used for two different table runners by " Jaybird Quilts"  Julie Herman.  First one uses the sidekick ruler and ends up measuring 18" x 44".  I added  some dark  grey backround  to the mix.

This one is called "Seaside"  It is just a flimsy right now.

The next tablerunner is called "Tasty" and is 17 1/2"  x  40 1/2.   It uses the hex  n more ruler.

Julie Herman gives you a pattern you may copy on template plastic and make your own template with each pattern.  I still have a handful of 2 1/2 " strips, so perhaps I will make another small quilt.  Chit chat with you later, Martha.

Something Old and Something New

I have something old and something new for you today. First something old , which is the picture at the top of my blog . It is a wool applique by Kim Diehl from one of her books "Simple Graces". I finally sent it out to be quilted and got it back and bound. I also have some pics of Rebecca Annakkala's beautiful quilting.  She did a great job!

I just need to put a label on and I am done.

Also I finished quilting and binding my table topper , by Jaybird Quilts and here is a pic of that!

Made from charm square batiks.

I put some wool applique on the border of my scrappy trip quilt.   I put 5 running rabbits on two corners.

Only one rabbit out of five has a pom pom for a tail sewn on!

Now for my something new! I finished a top that was a Jaybird  Quilts design and used a sidekick ruler like the "Rock Candy" Table topper pattern.

It is 40" x 46" a nice size baby quilt. The solid fabric is Cherrywood fabric.  Have a great Sunday and enjoy Daytona 500! Chatter later, Martha.

Scrappy Trip Around the World

If you remember from the last post I had only a partial jelly roll of Field Notes by Blackbird designs. I also have been wanting to try Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Trip. A match made in heaven.  This morning I went to find a border  and came back with  fabric and promptly cut and sewed the 4" borders on.

I had already prepared a backing and used up every leftover strip piece that I could to widen backing, which I had in my stash. So in essence this quilt only cost the price of  1 1/4 yards of border and binding! Cool!

I am also preparing a sample of a class project that I will teach in late March.  I just need to layer ,quilt and bind this table Topper.

This pattern is called Rock Candy by Jaybird Quilts.  It uses charm squares!  Chatter with you later, Martha.

A Bit More

I have been doing bits and pieces  of sewing on a few projects lately. At  "Colorz For Quilts"  the quilt store I work for, we are gathering friendship star blocks in red and cream for a quilt  to donate to Habitat for Humanity.  If  we are lucky we might be able to make more than one! Every  block they donate  gives them the opportunity to put their name in a jar .  There are free directions given out at the store.  Brenda Peterson from the other quilt store , in town , told about this event last Saturday at her club meeting.  I bought some fat quarters and made a few, 14 to be exact. A couple were make do blocks.

I also did two more stars for Temecula's sew a long . I also decided to add the backround as I sew them, since I am now up to March 15th.

I will have to keep working on finishing the backround diamonds.

I have also prepared some more pitchers to put on backround squares as you see here....

I had purchased a jelly roll of "Field Notes" by Blackbird Designs and had used part of it. I decided it was time to get rid of the rest of the roll.  I have started doing blocks of scrappy trip around the world. Here are a few blocks....

That is all I have to show for today, stop again and chit chat, Martha.

A Little Bit Further

I have now finished 18 of the pitcher blocks.  Thought I would show pics of the variety so far.

I am in the process of prepping some more blocks.

Last night at Pinetree Patchworkers Guild meeting we were asked to sew 2 foundation string pieced blocks with some of the strips that were cut from the fat quarters we each brought.  We will donate the quilt made from this blocks. So at next month's meeting I will be bringing these ....

Slow and steady wins the race!  Chatter later,Martha.

Catching Up

I worked on my stars (EPP) for Temecula Quilt Co. Supposed to do one a week , I have  enough to cover me until March 8th.

I only got 4 pitchers done, last Tuesday at hand sewing . And  I have finished five more this past week!

These are the two blocks my "Something Blue " quilt by Pam Buda are made of. Must make 20 of the ones on right and 16 of the ones on the left.

This is the block I made for myself for the 2nd month of block exchange with Pinetree Patchworkers Guild.

Thanks for stopping by and letting me show you my stuff come back and chit chat with me again. Martha.

Pinetree Patchworkers Block Exchange

There are ten members from our guild who have joined together to do a monthly block exchange. Wednesday was the first meeting where we were to bring our finished  blocks to that months recipent, which was Carol Nelson.  I had to work that day so I will be bringing mine to guild meeting on Monday.  I intend in making one block of each month's  challenge for myself as a personnel record of our endeavor.  This is a pic of my first month's challenge for myself....

Kathleen Hughes has the second month block exchange challenge and she stopped by the store and gave  Denise and I her directions.  I finished her blocks  after work yesterday and they are here....

The brown fabric squares are focus fabric that she wanted each person to use in their blocks which she provided.  Now I need to make a block for myself.

Victoria Findlay Wolfe also known as Bumble Beans asked if people who knew her, met her, took a class from her, etc. would make her an autograph block ( signature). She gave dimensions and requirements on her blog and I mailed that off today also.  I used Cherrywood in it.

I am headed for my sewing room to start "Something Blue" by Pam Buda. I will show a pic when I have some thing finished at least partway. Chatter later, Martha.

Valentine's Swap

I received my package today for our Valentine's day swap!  I was blessed with a wonderful swap partner. I have a notepad in the shape of an M, Godiva chocolate bar, red wool heart with my initial on it. Also a beautifully quilted table runner!  Just look....

Of course it immediately went onto my coffee table.  I sent Danette  an email thank you but would also like to send her another shout for being my swap partner and doing such a marvelous job!  Martha.

Superbowl Sunday

Since I am not a big fan of football, I did some sewing and prep work  instead. I finished my Carolina Lilly by Pam Buda.

I put a little flange on the inside of the binding, with 1/4 " peeking out.

Love the quilting that Rebecca did on it.

I  purchased the newest Quiltmania magazine  and fell in love with one of quilts . So I started prepping blocks to applique at our next hand sewing club meeting tomorrow. Here is a pic....

I did not reverse the pattern so my pitchers are going the opposite way the ones in the original piece are. But it makes no difference to me.  Off to work chatter later,Martha.
