sew what's new?

Our Third Saturday Group meets this Saturday! Yikes!! I had to get on the ball and sew up my third clues for the meeting. So yesterday that is what I did..... Ok, so with that finished I thought I should work on my Thimblecreek block four. Got them finished just as I saw they gave block five out today! So here are my two block fours, each have one piece of cotton lawn in them.                 Guess I will work on number five tomorrow.  I didn't want to leave my watercolor quilt alone for to long,or I would forget all about it. Below is a pic of the blank canvas. At first I was pondering the idea of hand applique.... I collaborated with hubby and two friends and came up with a different approach.... Wool applique, and with a crown of thorns hanging from cross. I now have to stitch it down ,quilt and bind it.  Wanda Hanson of "Exuberant Color" gave me the colorwash squares. She has such a wonde...

Our applique group met last Friday and we all enjoyed visiting and stitching. We had quite a nice group of lovely ladies.   Karen Martin and Sandy Baker were there. Kathi Potter was there and see her pretty stand and stow she made sitting there! That's  Twyila Parker who came visited and also started working on her next project which will be "Stitch Therapy"  that starts on Monday. Paula Murrey and Ann Manly came and we all enjoyed each other's company.  Elle Knolb also came and was crocheting some lovely coasters. She got away without getting her picture taken. Sly one she is! I finished my bonus project for my "Little Gatherings" club. I will not be able to get it quilted before the meeting. Guess that will have to wait until afterwards. I still have two of the birds to whip stitch down. Just thought I would share.... This project comes to 60" square and can easily be made larger with extra borders. It can also be made longer with  an additional  row, to make it 3 X 4 rows.  And more of a twin size 72" long by 60" wide.  This is a two fabric quilt and can easily be made scrappy.  Chit chat later, Martha.

Paula Murrey came to Colorz   Quilt Shop    and was working on her daughter.s mixer cover (shown above) . Anne Manly came and got a few questions answered and a few things out of the way. Dawn Leitsch was working on her Splendid Sampler's second block. Ellie Knolb brought a few projects to work on too! All in all we had a lovely time visiting and stitching!  I finished a small wall hanging of Fig Tree Quilts with her wool also.  I also got the second block of Buttermilk Basin's free BOM laid down and ready to be stitched! I will save this for stitching while watching the Walking Dead and Downton Abbey on Sunday. This is a small wall hanging from Little Gatherings book by Lisa Bongean with a saying from Mark Twain embroidered on it. I will check back later with you, Martha.

This is my block from Buttermilk Basin's free  BOM. Next one is the 15th of this month.  Also got one wool piece of Fig Tree quilts laid out and ready to get started on the hand stitching. She has you quilt your piece before you place down your wool. No heat ' n bond , just Roxanne glue. This piece is from the book "Little Gatherings" by Lisa Bongean.  Still working on the embroidery and wool before I begin the layering and quilting. This is flannel and will be a quilt label once I have it hand stitched down. What do you think?   This block is 11" square unfinished and 10 1/2" square finished. Never took the time to make a "Tree of Life " quilt before. So I will be working on this during the next week......chatter with you later, ladies! Martha.

I have just completed a wool wall hanging. It is of my own design. It has autumnal colors , because that is my favorite time of the year! It is 29" square. I also did some hand quilting on it. I enjoyed that and the practise is good. Someday I will get enough courage to hand quilt a lap size. A little closer look at the quilting. I did use bias binding because I rounded the corners.  Tomorrow  is the meeting with the Applique Group at Colorz.  I will be bringing the charity quilt to share also! Chatter later, Martha.

I have been working on a few little things , one of which I have just finished and am dying to show you. It is a small wool applique in a 14" square frame. It has sparkling  red swakorski crystals in the wreath and tree. I have also been working on a lap quilt using the fabric line called "Silver Linings" . The pattern is called "Hugs and Kisses" by Julie Herman  of Jaybird Quilts. I still have one more row of twenty 6 1/2" blocks to go. I am going to do a few more than that to add to the backing fabric. I had been working on a pattern by Edyta Sitar  with gingerbread men, but I will have to start all over with that one..... After I put it in the washer on delicate cycle to let the wash a way paper melt away ,so did the seams. It was linen and I did not zig zag the edges. I also used hot water and it shrunk. Totally my fault and I am starting all over again. Talk with you later, Martha.

I am off to work this morning but I thought I would sit and chat awhile with you  before I left.  I finished the third section of my "Gypsy Wife".... And then I finished the fourth section.... Got a shot of my toes, I think I need to go back and get a pedicure next week.  I then finished my fifth section.... And then I put them all together to get this.... I did not have a volunteer to hold up top so I drafted from my cupboards a few helpers!   I have just begun working on my sixth section which is the largest piece of all ten sections. In the meantime I am still working on this table topper at night.... In case some of you may not have heard yet the last season of Downton Abbey begins on September 20th! I finally got a chance to get back to my "Gypsy Wife" ! I finished most of the square in a square blocks, but still have 23 left to go. I have also been working on my english paper piecing and made five more with just one more needing to be made.... I have also prepared some wool for night time sewing.... I got some more practise on the paper piecing for   " Farmer's Wi fe   1930's "    which starts September 28th from the Gnome Angel and friends.  I did them in Cherrywood fabrics. I not only have  been busy with the sewing but also been cleaning and re-organizing some things in the kitchen also. I am taking my bread maker ,slicer and bread mixes to my son in October. As I do not get much use . My son makes his own buns for hamburgers even and they are good! Got a few more boxes to take back to Illinois to my daughter also. Chatter with you later, Martha.
