sew what's new?

I finished putting the binding on my bonnie Hunter quilt last night after getting it back from Connie Krueger(my quilter). Now just so you know, my quilt will look almost nothing like Bonnie's because I  set mine block to block not on the diagonal. I also only made half the number she requested because I only needed a smaller quilt. I also threw  away 120 pcs of one step.  I have also been working onThomas Fire Relief quilts for California. Here are some of my blocks made from Kansas Troubles fabric... Just so you know I did not forget here are some more Van Gogh quilts from Cherrywood... Each of these quilt are only 20" square. I felt I could not do a post until I had Bonnie Hunter's " Grand Illusion"  all put together to show you.   I took it to the quilter's yesterday, but rest assured I took some pics before I did that. Might be a few pics after I get that back, too!   A look at the borders. It felt good to finish and move on to some ufo's to finish. I have a hexagon flower one I am working on. I have finished two more blocks this past week.... These have a backround piece of Kim Diehl's fabric line " Hearthside Seasons"  from a couple of years ago.  The hexagons are made from two charm packs of "Jelly Bean" by Laundry basket Quilts. I also finished one more block of a quilt I had started about two or three years ago, let me show you first the block I had already finished  then.... Last night I finished another..... It is wool and flannel , the pattern is "Wooly Critter Sampler" by Brandywine Design...

 Or am I rushing in the new year ?  First ,I was excited as everyone else to get the instructions to put together the Mystery Quilt ;  as of this moment I ony have a few blocks put together. I would like to share those with you now.... I will share my progress with you in a few days.  Meanwhile those four days between finishing the last clues and receiving these last directions, I was bored,so I started a flannel quilt for my bed. I had been collecting     acquiring print  flannel fat quarters for the past one and a half years. I was able to acquire some solids recently also ,enough for that queen size quilt in autumnal colors ( my favorite). I was not able to find one single pattern that rang my chimes. So I combined parts of three different ones. I took the 6" simple squares put together radomly from one pattern.  I took the sunflower applique , but only in a small band 3/4 of the way up (not an all over the top  pattern )....

I  have been  doing a little catch up sewing and have now finished all five parts of Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt! How are you doing? I will give you peep at mine.... These are four pcs. that are all  the same. These are the 25 pcs. , but have four different aquas in them. I was trying to use up scraps.  Can hardly wait until given direction as to how to put together! Anticipaction mounting! These are five nine patch blocks for our drawing in February in our Simple Whatnots group. They just sweeten the pot! I also finished putting on the binding of a table runner from the Missouri Star's magazine "The Block "  #5. It uses one charm pack.  It uses the "Petal Pusher" charm pack. I forgot to tell you that while in our applique class , I was working on these.... Little ornaments for the tree sent along with Christmas cards. They are from a free pattern from Buttermilk Basin a couple of weeks ago. Now for the Mystery  Quilt progress....... We have   #2 and #3  which are similar to part one! We first had to make our  aqua and neutral half square triangles, 80 of them. I did have 2 different neutrals and many different aquas. These are my two different blocks. At this moment I have twenty of each but by this afternoon I shall have finished ( with god's grace). I shall link up to quiltville  here .  Chatter soon, Martha.

Yes I am a messy bessy trying to keep up with Ms. Bonnie Hunter and all her clues! I am super busy sewing strips together. Then cutting them apart and sewing them back together..... Probably will be sewing these until next clue on friday.  You will find the link up   here  . Made a cute Laurel Birch Horse quilt top, which my husband really liked the colors of.... Chatter soon!

So we move on to clue # 2 . I have several different reds,although my background and black remain constant. At least for now!   This is something I am considering for my bias binding.... I think they go rather well together, what do you say? Plus I am keeping all my extra half square triangles to possibly use them in the border..... Carry on, everyone, chit chat later, Martha.

Gudrun Eurla will be teaching a class for our guild tomorrow and then  speaking in front of our guild later in the evening. We are all looking forward to hearing her. I will take her class also as I have one of the best bosses and has let her entire staff go to this while she mans the store. I have my bobbins wound and most of my stuff packed. However I would like to clean and blow out my machine before I pack it up. I have finished another embroidery block.... I have exchanged my month of September with another for this month on our block exchange for our guild.  I have some pics to show you.  The block I picked was from Bonnie Hunter's book " String Fling "  .   Sew several bright strips in varying sizes ( from 3/4" to 2" ) together. Each strip must be at least 8" long. Then press all seams in one direction. Cut one end even, making sure to get all selvages off. Even though I was sewing straight lengths of fabric, I turned my ruler so...
