Quilt of Gratitude

Image
I sent my Uncle Junior's "Quilt of Gratitude" on it's way to him. It should arrive on Monday.   I have also finished another top. This one has a five patch matched with a snowball block. I have a scrappy black binding ready also.   I also made some more masks from a different pattern. This pattern is the fastest one I've tried.  Next one I am going to try the one is Bonnie Hunter's  with T-shirt ties.                           I used soft baby elastic in these.  Be kind to one another, Martha.

Quilt of Gratitude

After a few mis-steps , I finally have a finish to my log cabin Quilt of Gratitude. I sewed the last two rows to the wrong side of the four by four row square. You'll see with a picture.... So I did some frog sewing and ripped it out and put it back together! I also decided to only use a small 2 1/2" border instead of 3 rounds of 2 1/2" borders. I didn't need the extra length. Got the backing put together and ready for the quilter. I did start making masks. I have been making the ones with bread ties for bendable shapeing around the nose and pocket for extra filter.                    You can see wire in pocket before sewing it in. I made one from 100% cotton and one from flannel. I will be making more of these until my elastic runs out. Chatter later, Martha. P.S. I will be undergoing a Cardioinversion procedure this Friday morning. Prayers will be greatly appreiciated. Lord's will be done.  ...

Plugging Along

I have the first eight blocks all sewn together, to form the first two rows. There are a total of six rows. I have also picked out a fabric that I will be useing for the border surrounding the rows. And I have an extra wide backing fabric so that I won't have to piece a backing. A much darker blue with stars. So right now I am working on that second batch of eight blocks. Eight blocks at a time doesn't seem so overwelming, more doable! Chatter later, Martha.

Quilt For A Veteran

Image
My Uncle Junior served in the Army  for at least 25 years . I believe he went to Veit Nam twice.  I know that I have one cousin that was born in Germany, because his family followed him when they could. He joined when he was 16 or 17, somewhere around 1949 or 1950. He was my mom's older brother and friend. He has never recieved a quilt from Quilts of Honor, Quilts of Gratitude, or Quilts of Valor. So I have decided to make him one myself.  I found a pattern that I liked, which is a log cabin type. I am going to make the lap size version for him which is a total of 24 blocks.  I have picked out my material  and started to sew up my 24-- four and a half inch star centers. I needed 20 of the red blocks and only 4 of the blue ones.  I took four of each color and started building my log cabins. The first eight blocks all have at least three rounds of logs on each side. They need four rounds. I will share my progress as I conti...

New Year, New Project!

Image
My projects for this month will be mainly trying to use up my huge bin of 2 1/2" strips.  In making as many quilts as I possibly can out of this, so that I may get this container off my sewing room floor! I have  a large selection of patterns that mainly use 2 1/2" strips and a bit of background fabric. My first pattern is a pattern my daughter choose last year for one of her grey,  black,  and white quilts she wants for her living room. I can see this being made with red, white blue, and gold strips for Quilts of Gratitude or Quilts of Honor.  Maybe just scrappy using all colors too!  I begin by sewing three strips together and press seams one direction and then using the 45* angle on my ruler cutting more 2 1/2 strips..... Which I get 3 pieces from each strip and I need 81 of these for my quilt.... I have already made 44 of these, so the next few days I will be making more of these. I will update you as to my progre...
