Guild Sew- In

Image
Yesterday our guild had a sew-in at the local church where we hold our meetings.  We had a variety of soups and breads and cookie bars  to help us get thru the day! None of us were left wanting for anything. I took a few pics that I will gladly share....    Val marking her half square triangles. Carol Lang finishing her binding. Terese Molby's placemats. Terese Molby Pretty cheater's cloth someone tied and bound. Sue Carrol working on a QOV quilt. Some of Karen Martin's Stitch Therapy Hexagons. Karen Martin working away. Sewing Away! On my bed. I put on a scrappy binding and  put it on my bed immediately! I also finished putting on the binding on my alphbet quilt.... And I got my cherrywood and vintage blossum one half way finished with binding.... I have also started another Kim Diehl quilt..... This one is called "Cloud Nine". Chatter with you soon, Martha.

Life can be Hectic

Image
We all have periods where we are bored and life seems to be either on pause  or definetly on slow  motion. Right now mine seems to be on fast forward and with some glitches. I make a docter's appt. a month in advance and then two days before the doc cancels.  I make an appt. for taxes and they cancel me too!  In other words I wish to move along at  a faster pace but no one seems to be accomodating. Such is life..... I have finished another Kim Diehl pattern "Village Square". I have a couple of picsfor you....                                           Bound and quilted. I finished my turtle block of "Wooly Critter Sampler". I have prepared two more blocks for stitching at night also. I also recently got back my flannel quilt from the quilter's (Laura Shogren) quilted this one.   only 1/3 of the quilt I have the bind...

Flannel For Autumn

Image
I finished putting on my crows on my flannel squares quilt I had started before Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt came into my life! What I also did was to use one of the stitches on my machine to put a few ants or bees on my sunflowers (I have not decided what they are yet, but they are bugs!)  I finished adding all my rows of square and ended up with a quilt about 94"  x  94". It is in line to be quilted as we speak!  Just a simple all over design for this one.  But I did choose some lovely varigated thread for it!  I also prepared block seven of my "Wooly Critter Sampler" as you can see here.... Guild meeting tonight , we have a new pattern designer coming to talk!Chatter later, Martha.

Rush In The New Year!

Image
Or am I rushing in the new year ?  First ,I was excited as everyone else to get the instructions to put together the Mystery Quilt ;  as of this moment I ony have a few blocks put together. I would like to share those with you now.... I will share my progress with you in a few days.  Meanwhile those four days between finishing the last clues and receiving these last directions, I was bored,so I started a flannel quilt for my bed. I had been collecting     acquiring print  flannel fat quarters for the past one and a half years. I was able to acquire some solids recently also ,enough for that queen size quilt in autumnal colors ( my favorite). I was not able to find one single pattern that rang my chimes. So I combined parts of three different ones. I took the 6" simple squares put together radomly from one pattern.  I took the sunflower applique , but only in a small band 3/4 of the way up (not an all over the top  pattern )....

A Little Bit of Everything

Image
I have been quilting my class project from Victoria Findley Wolfe's  and now have the binding put on the front .  I  will be sewing it down tonight.  I decided to try and hand quilt it. If I want to get good at this skill, I must practise. Binding almost there! Hand quilting. My elephant. I started to do a flannel quilt for my bed but have changed my mind for several reasons. Let me show you a block.... These are six inch blocks with three layers each. So when sewing a seam you are sewing thru 6 layers of flannel!  I have sewn together four of them and pressed all seams open. The four patch is heavy, so I cannot even imagine putting batting and backing. The  top blocks are stiff already ,so putting very much quilting will not happen. So no queen size quilt from this pattern for me! I have another crib size quilt on table. I am making it from one charm pack and 1 1/4 yard of background fabric. The pattern is called "Lollipop Tw...
