I have been in a whirlwind these past ten days ! I have been swept away with many projects!  First of all the Crow Wing County fair was last week. I entered my  "Wooly Critters" quilt and won best of show,so I am happy about that. We are still in the midst of the Minnesota shop which lasts until this Sunday, the 16th.  And we had our meeting of our Simple Whatnots last tuesday and we had some show and tell also from it! Linda Johnson brought us this beauty to share! Ann manly brought in this lovely which also is a Kim Diehl pattern! And then Lorna Weins won the door prize this meeting... I hope to finish this today and take it back to work. Also I don't know if any of you readers have heard of the third book of Laurie  Hird called "Farmer's Wife, 1930's"  . I have just finished my second block of  "Sassy" by Quilting On The Curve Designs.  I am anxious to show you! Such bright and lovely colors..... I also prepped another block of "Sophie's Garden " by Pam Curo. We held our June meeting of  "Simple Whatnots" group and there was lots of show and tell. Many had their first part of Kim Diehl's sampler to show and were getting their second part of directions. Linda  A. brought hers made from Cherrywood. Deb W. showed her parts of part #1. Mary T. brought her lovelies too! Georgia started off our regular show and tell with a collection one quilt. She also had 2 other small quilts with Kim Diehl fabric to show off to! Busy woman. Next was  Gail with her own design in Kim Diehl fabrics!  She brought in a gorgeous star quilt to share with us to. Susan is holding up Ellie's star show and tell runner, that makes such a wonderful July...

I finished my quilt guild challenge!  Yes it is quilted and bound and ready! I filled out my form and took the pic and ready for the May 11th deadline. Yesterday we had our second meeting of our Simple Whatnots by Kim Diehl. Lorna Weins brought her mini log cabinquilt for show and tell! Lori Strubel brought  her start to a new Kim Diehl quilt she is working on. This is one row and she is going for king size! This is Gail Temple with her version of " Hen Pecked". Georgia  brought this lovely example of a star quilt and she finised "Laundry Day " from collection I .  I just wasn't quick enough with the camera to get a pic before she put it done on her chair.  I have been working on Kim Diehl's "Honeycomb" for a while now. Not a huge quilt, but I have chosen to do it by hand instead of machine zig zag.  There are elongated hexagons, not run of the mill hexagons. I copied my hexagons onto freezer paper and ironed shiny side to back of fabric after I cut them out. They are sewn on top of base fabric and form little diamonds. Our region had their own little shop hop last weekend and it was quite successful. Just a pic of our display  for women in history. Our choice was Louisa May Alcott , author of "Little Women".  We still have a couple of kits for that blue and white small kit available at " Colorz for Quilts",just call and reserve one.Chatter later, Martha.

I showed you all a pic of my "Cloud Nine" by Kim Diehl of Simple Whatnots II.  Now let me share a few more... The top is finished here.... Layered and ready to be quilted... Bound and quilted. No I did not drop off the earth, just went to visit my kids and grand kids for Easter. Mr. Sew and I enjoyed spending time with them all! I saw a few of my friends too!  We did the trip back in record time , and unfortunately my sciatica has been bothering me ever since.  So in between the ice packs and and the hot packs, I have been doing a little sewing as you will see below.... This quilt is called "Cloud Nine" by Kim Diehl. In each 4 1/2 " unfinished block there are29 pieces.  An what gave me a thrill was the look of the back.... So cool the way it lays so flat! We had our first meeting of "Simple Whatnots" and we had some show and tell too! Sharon brought a courthouse steps quilt she had made as a gift.She said she had another cut out and it ws for her. We were a small group that met Friday, but we more than made up with enthusiasm!  Linda Johnson  preparing her Lori Smith pattern. Sherry Falink working on her wool hexies. Paula Murrey working on her Dear Jane. We also had a couple of guests sit in for a while and enjoy our company.... I have started a new Kim Diehl quilt called " Village Square".  It has some applique on it and some churn dash blocks. I was working on the applique during our group.  I have squared up what blocks I have finished on my " Wooly Critter Sampler "  quilt and put some of the sashing on.  I am now working on block #9. I put some beads in the centers of the flowers instead of french knots.  Chatter with you later, Martha.
