sew what's new?

  I finished my Log Cabin Hexagon quilt and took it to a longarm quilter  to be quilted. I do have pics to back that up for you. This is the second quilt to be made from the leftovers from the "Coastal Lily" quilt. I have also finished another block from "Winter Wonderland" and sewn  what blocks that I have finished together! It was quite a windy day when I took those pictures!  I also got the binding put on and back stitched down on my "Civil War Ladies"  quilt. All for now, be safe and be kind, Martha.  We're still getting snow! Woke up this morning with three inches on the ground and still coming down. Finished another Winter Wonderland block!  I have been working on my scrap basket , as the last three quilts have filled it up. I thought I'd try a hexagon log cabin with 1 1/2" strips. What I've been up to..... I have gotten four rows together and have started on the last 8 blocks needed. Still have a few rounds to go on these. I have cut my binding strips and my border strips. I also need to iron my backing fabric. Bet you've been busy too! Want to try making a couple face masks and starting Edyta Sitar's sew a long. I printed out Gudren Eurla's sew a long pattern, but it is large peices and not very complicated. I think I can do that on my own. Chatter later, Martha.

I have the first eight blocks all sewn together, to form the first two rows. There are a total of six rows. I have also picked out a fabric that I will be useing for the border surrounding the rows. And I have an extra wide backing fabric so that I won't have to piece a backing. A much darker blue with stars. So right now I am working on that second batch of eight blocks. Eight blocks at a time doesn't seem so overwelming, more doable! Chatter later, Martha.

My Uncle Junior served in the Army  for at least 25 years . I believe he went to Veit Nam twice.  I know that I have one cousin that was born in Germany, because his family followed him when they could. He joined when he was 16 or 17, somewhere around 1949 or 1950. He was my mom's older brother and friend. He has never recieved a quilt from Quilts of Honor, Quilts of Gratitude, or Quilts of Valor. So I have decided to make him one myself.  I found a pattern that I liked, which is a log cabin type. I am going to make the lap size version for him which is a total of 24 blocks.  I have picked out my material  and started to sew up my 24-- four and a half inch star centers. I needed 20 of the red blocks and only 4 of the blue ones.  I took four of each color and started building my log cabins. The first eight blocks all have at least three rounds of logs on each side. Our guild held a log cabin class taught by Linda Augenbright this past week. We had our choice  of doing either a 2" or 2 1/2" wide logs.  So I decided to use 2 1/2", a batik  jelly roll by Laundry Basket to be exact. I used my scrappy light colors from my saved scraps. I also decided to applique 3 birds on it too! Three blue birds to represent, father, son, and holy spirit.
