It's Been A Grey January!

Image
Yes I do live in Minnesota, besides that I have been working on a grey, black and white quilt! So that's what I 've been looking at for the past two weeks. This is what the designer gave directions for, however I thought it a bit too small so I added some borders. First a small one finishing at 1 1/4" and then a larger one that will finish at five inches. I  have asked the quilter to quilt gnomes on it , as my daughter likes them. I am putting flannel on the back. Grey, black and white flannel of course. Chatter later, Martha.

Quilt Guild Challenge

I finished my quilt guild challenge!  Yes it is quilted and bound and ready! I filled out my form and took the pic and ready for the May 11th deadline. Yesterday we had our second meeting of our Simple Whatnots by Kim Diehl. Lorna Weins brought her mini log cabinquilt for show and tell! Lori Strubel brought  her start to a new Kim Diehl quilt she is working on. This is one row and she is going for king size! This is Gail Temple with her version of " Hen Pecked". Georgia  brought this lovely example of a star quilt and she finised "Laundry Day " from collection I .  I just wasn't quick enough with the camera to get a pic before she put it done on her chair. This is Linda Johnson's star quilt she brought to show us.  Here is Linda! This is Lorna again with her courthouse steps! Mary Theuer brought this star quilt to share with us. And this version of courthouse steps. Plus she brought  the raffl...

A Diamond Here , A Diamond There

Image
Yes I have finished another diamond and have taken a pic for your viewing ..... I have also finished some more sawtooth stars.... I am hoping to finish this quilt by next wednesday by immersing myself in  the sewing room!  We will see how far I can get. Since we had such bad weather at our last meeting of Prairie Women , I thought I might backtract a wee bit and talk a little more about hexes. Yeah like you can stop me! HA HA!!!  We are getting some remarkable new teachers at our store and one that took place last week was " The Lone Star"  by Bev Wignes. I just had too much on my plate right now to take the class, but maybe next time. Will chit chat a little more later, Martha.

New Beginnings

Image
I have started a new quilt and have at the moment only one block finished with its sashing squares. More to come on this one. I do have the pieces cut though, which sometimes is the most tedious part of it.  The center red star fabric has a fall feel to it, as it has brown leaves it in.  I am contemplating putting black wool crows on border or perhaps acorns and oak leaves in two of the outside corners.  That is a long way off so we will see later. I am getting a little bored with these hexes although I am almost finished making them; I still have to put them all together.  I need a hand project that I can switch off to. So I started on today and got it already for tonight. It has been layered with backing and batting and has been quilted down. Wool is attached and waiting to be sewn down tonight.  This is the first time a pattern had me do the layering and quilting first. And then attach wool. Usually the other way around.  Have been doing a l...
