sew what's new?

I have not sewn clothes for a long time, may be  15  years.  I take that back I think I made one grand daughter some tee shirts or tops three years ago. But that is about all. But I must have caught a bug somewhere because I recently decided thatI needed a light jacket or cover top. I am growing an affection for batiks, slowly , very slowly. So I thoughtIt should be made from that!  I chose a pattern that I liked the look of from CNT patterns  called  A LITTLE SOMETHING   I finished it in one day, it only had 3 pattern pieces, no  buttonholes,  and no interfacing !  The only thing I did different was to use blind hem stitch on my machine to hem sleeves and around front facing because I like the look better than just a straight stitch. Sorry about pic  being sideways.  But I just learned how to rotate pics. You see even a computer illiterate like me can blog!! Anyway I will wear the  jacket tomorrow at work. ...

TODAY WAS THE LAST BARBARA BRACKMAN  BLOCK ;  SO NOW I CAN FINISH PUTTING MY BACK TOGETHER. I HAVE ALSO FINISHED BLOCK SIX OF THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS. I HAVE FIVE DAYS OF MY TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS QUILT BY TEMECULA QUILT CO. FINISHED.FILLS IN  A NICE LULL TILL NEW YEAR , ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU MUST WORK OUTSIDE THE HOME. I HAVE ALSO FINISHED  BLOCK # 52 OF THE BARBARA BRACKMAN ,CIVIL WAR QUILT. WE ALL KNEW IT WOULD COME SOONER OR LATER ,IT SNOWED TODAY!  ENOUGH SO THE SNOW PLOWS GOT OUT. TOMORROW IS THE LAST BLOCK FOR BARBARA BRACKMAN! TAKE CARE OVER THE WEEK-END AND TRAVEL SAFELY!  HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!! MARTHA

FINISHED BLOCK #51 NEW YORK FROM BARBARA BRACKMAN'S CIVIL WAR. THEN THIS MORNING A LITTLE BIT OF THE WHITE STUFF ACTUALLY FELL.  JUST A LITTLE BIT OF DUSTING; WE WILL SEE IF IT LASTS. THEN I DECIDED TO TRY SOMETHING NEW AND THAT I HAD NOT DONE BEFORE.  I HAVE DEFINITELY DECIDED TO USE TWO DIFFERENT FABRICS FOR MY BORDER.  HOWEVER I WAS THINKING OF MAKING SOME SCALLOPS IN MY BORDER .  SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY A METHOD I HAD READ ABOUT.  IT MAKES VERY SMALL SCALLOPS. FIRST TAKE TWO DIFFERENT FABRICS AND SEW THEM TOGETHER USING 1/4 SEAM ALLOWANCE.  THESE PIECES ARE FOUR INCH WIDE AND TWO INCH WIDE.  PRESS SEAM WELL TO ONE SIDE.  I  WOULD USE A MATCHING THREAD TO DO THIS ,HOWEVER I WANT YOU TO BE ABLE TO SEE THIS SO I AM USING A CONTRASTING THREAD.   TAKE A DISSAPPEARING MARKER TO MARK  ONE INCH FROM SEAM LINE. AND PRESS AND FOLD THE LARGER PIECE OF MATERIAL TO THAT LINE. I PUT A PIN EVERY FOUR INCHES ALONG FOLD LINE ...

   I FINISHED MY BLOCK # 40 AND # 41 ,SO I AM NOW CAUGHT UP IN MY BLOCKS; FROM THE BARBARA BRACKMAN CIVIL WAR SERIES.  NEW BLOCK NEXT SATURDAY. SO THEN I MADE BETTY CROCKERS PUMPKIN COOKIES  (FROM A PACKAGE)  AND HOMEMADE  CREAM CHEESE  FROSTING.  MY GOOD FRIEND MARY ANN  SERVED MY HUSBAND AND I ,  THESE ON OUR RECENT VISIT. I HAVE STARTED BINDING ONE OF MY QUILTS AND PERHAPS WILL BE ABLE TO SHOW YOU TOMORROW!!   ALL FOR NOW TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES. MARTHA     

  i have been trying to keep up with barbara brackmen civil war blocks. Going home this weekend to see family and friends,so got this ready to hand applique on the ride. This is her block #40. only twelve more to go!!  We are going thru minneapolis this time , we have never done it before. It ought to be interesting. It is suppose to take an half hour off driving time!  Whoopee!!!! men,uggggh! I am taking my son a sewing machine and had to pack a few extras so i could teach him  how to use it. My son will have chili and cornbread for us when we get thereand my daughter and her family are bringing Lasana Soup? I have not had that before.  All for now,thanks for visiting, martha
