A Little Progress

Image
I finished the words "Autumn" for the Lori Holt  quilt. A few months back apparently did some embroidery and started to paint a block of the nine done. I got frustrated with it and gave it to my friend Connie. She quilted it lately and asked me if I would color a few more blocks to make it more uniform. So I finished working on it last night...... Before painting other blocks. Now that I have finished coloring I can give it back to her. She plans to donate it to charity. Speaking of which I have three quilts going to my church to fill a need  where ever they deem necessary. Here are their pictures before they leave my house...... For now it is back to applique and Lori Holt, chatter later, Martha.

So So Week

Image
This week has been a blah week. Not only with the weather, overcast and wet and cold. But also with the sewing. My Halloween embroidery quilt got finished. Take a look at the top right hand block. I used a yellow, orange and red  crayon to color in around the moon and witch. I was trying to mask the fact that when I washed out the transfer ease the thread bled . I used two different skeins of thread, so it did not happen with all the blocks, only two of them. I tried Synthropol and I also tried a color catcher. Neither helped. I ended up giving it to a friend for her to quilt for a charity or crisis quilt. I new every time I would look at it I would see The black wave of color. Just a close up of crayon work. Now a little bit of Farmer's wife to show off... Cherrywood #78 old maid This week I also went thru my yearly mammogram, everything fine. It is breast cancer awareness month.  I also had a colonoscopy, everything fine there also. Pleas...

Back From Vacation

Image
I went back home to visit my kids and friends and went to a Mumaw family reunion.  When I came back I had to play catch up on Farmer's Wife 1930's .  So first I have pics of my Cherrywood blocks.... and now pictures of my 30's fabric... I have also been stitching some embroidery halloween  blocks... I have a total of nine blocks to do.  I won't finish this before halloween , but it will be ready for next year. I am also sewing down some binding on my Gypsy Wife quilt I got back from the quilter. I will chatter with you later, Martha.

Increase In Alphabet

Image
There has been an increase in Temecula's alphabet since our last chat session. H and I have been added .  I have a few pics to show you.... I like all the color!  I also had a few Halloween fat quarters laying around and decided to do something with them. I first cut 6 1/2 " squares from them and sewed them into a 6 by 6 block flimsy. I then added a 4 1/2" border . I only decided on that because that is how much of the grey fabric that I had left in the scrap bin. I am now making petals or doing a peel sort of thing along the seam lines of each square. I am appliqueing them down with a blind hem stitch and monofilament thread on top. 44 1/2 " square I will show you a little bit more as I finish it! Have you been making anything for Halloween? Chatter later, Martha.

I Am Not Ready!

Image
I definitely was not ready for what hit us on saturday!  There had been such nice fall weather and such beautiful sunshine!  But when I awoke and looked out on  the deck see what I found.......  I had traveled out Friday to a quilt show in Walker , MN.  It was small but lots of fun..  Saw a few demos and a sewing machine demo and a few vendors were there. A few quilts from 1900 to 1950 and now!  Today I dug out my Witch's Boot quilt and hung it up. I think I need to take it out and refold more often from the looks of it. A closer look at the boot for you. Are you doing a little Halloween decorating your self?   Big news a little later! Martha

Slow Poke

Image
Feeling like a little slow poke. Doing quite a bit of handwork lately and not a whole lot to show for it right now. But I did finish sewing the binding for the mourning quilt and the candle mat for fall. Put a special button on it and some seed beads on the sunflower. I also finished one more of my Halloween block that are blackwork.  I am starting on ptncushions! Wool ones to be exact. Five different ones by four different people.  Working hard tonight  to at least getting the applique finished. It's cool here ,  so sit and warm up with a cup of tea and we will yak later,Martha

LOOSE ENDS

Image
I HAVE BEEN TYING UP SOME LOOSE ENDS IN MY SEWING ROOM. IT HAS KEPT ME BUSY YESTERDAY AND TODAY.  I HAVE MADE SOME MORE RAIL SASHINGS AND SOME MORE CORNERSTONE  9 PATCH BLOCKS FOR MY BARBARA BRACKMAN CIVIL WAR QUILT BLOCK OF THE WEEK. THEN I HAVE BOUND MY HALLOWEEN QUILT AND PUT A SLEEVE ON THE BACK. IT WAS QUILTED IN THE WHITE SQUARE WITH A SMALL CLOSE MEANDER AND THEN A LARGER MEANDER WITH BLACK OUTSIDE OF THE WHITE SQUARE. HOPEFULLY YOU CAN SEE IT IN THIS CLOSE UP. THEN MY BOW TIE QUILT WAS BOUND WITH A STRIPE FABRIC CUT ON THE BIAS AND HAS A FEATHER QUILTING PATTERN ON IT. I WOULD LIKE TO GET MY SEWING ROOM IN ORDER BEFORE THE NEW YEAR BEGINS.  WISH ME LUCK ON THAT!  SEW INTO THE NIGHT  !! MARTHA

A QUILTING WE WILL GO!

Image
I WENT TO MY QUILTER THIS MORNING , MARY HAMMER , AND I BROUGHT TWO WALL HANGINGS WITH ME . THEY WERE ABOUT THE SIZE OF BABY QUILTS.  I TOOK MY HALLOWEEN  WALL HANGING, FROM THE LAST POST. AND MY BOW TIE WALL HANGING. THIS WAS MY PIECED BACKING. THESE WERE THE LEFTOVERS FROM THE FRONT OF THE QUILT.   I KNEW NEXT YEAR I WOULD WANT TO BUY NEW HALLOWEEN FABRICS FOR MY PROJECTS ;  SO  I  DECIDED TO USE THEM UP.  I DO NOT BUY THAT MANY HALLOWEEN FABRICS.  ALSO MARY'S YOUNGEST DAUGHTER  HAD GIVEN ME SOME FABRIC SHE HAD SEWN TOGETHER LIKE A PATCH,  I TOLD HER WHEN SHE GAVE IT TO ME IT LOOKED LIKE PEOPLE WITH THIER HEADS CUT OFF.  I PUT THIS PATCH SHE HAD SEWN ON THE BACK OF MY QUILT.   PERFECT FOR MY HALLOWEEN QUILT. MY BACKING FOR MY BOW TIE QUILT WAS AS YOU SEE BELOW. MARY  IS SO NICE TO WORK WITH . SHE PICKS OUT THE THREAD FOR ME.  AND THEN SHE KNOWS IF SHE HAS A QUILTING PATTERN THAT WILL...
