sew what's new?

I am a little bit perturbed with Joe at Thimblecreek who has been promising for a month that he would give setting directions for his "No Tricks Just Treats" sew-a-long. He has asked to wait two more weeks. I am tired of waiting and have just decided to do my own version. So I will be working on that today. Before I sent my granddaughter the quilt for her friend, I did manage to take some pics. Her father had passed away from cancer, if you didn't remember. As you can see I went with an aqua blue for back and binding. I also made sure that I got the label sewn on too. I have small squares placed randomly of his tee shirts in blue, green, and grey. Also some pieces of those shirts on back near the bottom. Should arrive on Thursday. All for now, Martha.

I have mostly been working on third Saturday blocks. I have managed to sneak in the two step eight blocks from Thimblecreek mystery.                             As always one blue and one green. And now for my third Saturday blocks. The hugs and kisses block was added to the checkerboard and enclosed star block previously made earlier. The flying geese block was added to a new set of three blocks. I didn't know which picture would give you a better view. Still no clue as to how all these blocks are put together. Hubby and I took a trip to see the oldest granddaughter graduate from high school.  She won awards for Music and Choral. This is what she will major in and minor in computer graphics. We also got to visit with her brother and new wife while there. (Our only grandson) Afterwards we traveled a little further to visit our son and his family. He got to show us his new home. He had only been there about a week. We also got a tour of the area also. We eventually came home to laundry and garden.... Got caught up on my " Square Dance"  table topper from  My Carolina Home   blog.                             Got a few rows done on one side.                        Then got a few more on the other side.                                   ...

I finished joining the steps 2 and 4, from the mystery quilt of Third Saturday Group. I also finished Thimblecreek's step 6 of Just Treats no Tricks! Now I get to start something new and fresh! I have two jelly rolls of Me and My Sister's "LOL" and a fat quarter bundle of solids. We'll see what I can come up with! Chatter later.

Our Third Saturday Group meets this Saturday! Yikes!! I had to get on the ball and sew up my third clues for the meeting. So yesterday that is what I did..... Ok, so with that finished I thought I should work on my Thimblecreek block four. Got them finished just as I saw they gave block five out today! So here are my two block fours, each have one piece of cotton lawn in them.                 Guess I will work on number five tomorrow.  I didn't want to leave my watercolor quilt alone for to long,or I would forget all about it. Below is a pic of the blank canvas. At first I was pondering the idea of hand applique.... I collaborated with hubby and two friends and came up with a different approach.... Wool applique, and with a crown of thorns hanging from cross. I now have to stitch it down ,quilt and bind it.  Wanda Hanson of "Exuberant Color" gave me the colorwash squares. She has such a wonde...

I finished the two new blocks that were given on Tuesday earlier this week. One green and one blue, like the rest of my blocks. I was ready to start a new hand quilting project and thought I would work with a stack of 2 1/2" squares of Kaffe fabrics. I bought them at Gruber's in St. Cloud, MN. They were a bundle of 250. I also had  2 1/2 yards of a background fabric that I thought would go well. I figured out a pattern that consisted of two different blocks. They come out 8 1/2" unfinished and 8" finished. The block with arrows to measurements looks like this.... The other block with four rows of four looks like this..... Got a few more blocks to make. Playing around with settings and found one I like .  I turned the four patch  block  different ways to get this pattern.  I may play around a bit more to find other ways to use these blocks before I decide. I have completed my two blocks for Thimblecreek Mystery sew-a-long..... As you can see the "No tricks just Treats" will not be in Halloween colors.  I could not resist doing a little retail therapy while in St. Cloud. I have been sewing away and trying to catch up with my "Splendid Sampler" blocks.... I also finished clue's #9 and #10 in my Thimblecreek sew a long. So I am up to date there.... #9 #10 Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day! Martha.

Our applique group met last Friday and we all enjoyed visiting and stitching. We had quite a nice group of lovely ladies.   Karen Martin and Sandy Baker were there. Kathi Potter was there and see her pretty stand and stow she made sitting there! That's  Twyila Parker who came visited and also started working on her next project which will be "Stitch Therapy"  that starts on Monday. Paula Murrey and Ann Manly came and we all enjoyed each other's company.  Elle Knolb also came and was crocheting some lovely coasters. She got away without getting her picture taken. Sly one she is!
