sew what's new?

  I finished my Log Cabin Hexagon quilt and took it to a longarm quilter  to be quilted. I do have pics to back that up for you. This is the second quilt to be made from the leftovers from the "Coastal Lily" quilt. I have also finished another block from "Winter Wonderland" and sewn  what blocks that I have finished together! It was quite a windy day when I took those pictures!  I also got the binding put on and back stitched down on my "Civil War Ladies"  quilt. All for now, be safe and be kind, Martha.  We're still getting snow! Woke up this morning with three inches on the ground and still coming down. Finished another Winter Wonderland block!  I have been working on my scrap basket , as the last three quilts have filled it up. I thought I'd try a hexagon log cabin with 1 1/2" strips. I have been trying to get ready for retreat this April 1st thru the third. Last year I brought a quilt that had been in Quiltmania.    I had purchased a kit from Moda for this, same fabrics as the cover photo. Fabric and pattern are designed by one of my favorite designers! Jen Kingwell!!! Last year I forgot to bring the right rulers to be able to cut the pieces out, so next to nothing was done. So my goal this year was to have all diamonds put together so that I can just put blocks together and leave with a top put together! We'll see how far I get. Till I have a pile, but not quite finished..... I still have a couple of weeks to prepare, so I still have some time! Chatter later, Martha.

 I have been working on Kim Diehl's "Honeycomb" for a while now. Not a huge quilt, but I have chosen to do it by hand instead of machine zig zag.  There are elongated hexagons, not run of the mill hexagons. I copied my hexagons onto freezer paper and ironed shiny side to back of fabric after I cut them out. They are sewn on top of base fabric and form little diamonds. Our region had their own little shop hop last weekend and it was quite successful. Just a pic of our display  for women in history. Our choice was Louisa May Alcott , author of "Little Women".  We still have a couple of kits for that blue and white small kit available at " Colorz for Quilts",just call and reserve one.Chatter later, Martha.

I am doing some happy sewing today! I have so far made a batch of chocolate chip cookies, cleaned up the kitchen, the laundry is done ,swept the floors and prepared this block for stitching while  watching Downton Abbey.... I have also finished four blocks of the hexagons...... I just have to cook dinner before I commence stitching!  Such a lovely sunday! How about you?

I felt I could not do a post until I had Bonnie Hunter's " Grand Illusion"  all put together to show you.   I took it to the quilter's yesterday, but rest assured I took some pics before I did that. Might be a few pics after I get that back, too!   A look at the borders. It felt good to finish and move on to some ufo's to finish. I have a hexagon flower one I am working on. I have finished two more blocks this past week.... These have a backround piece of Kim Diehl's fabric line " Hearthside Seasons"  from a couple of years ago.  The hexagons are made from two charm packs of "Jelly Bean" by Laundry basket Quilts. I also finished one more block of a quilt I had started about two or three years ago, let me show you first the block I had already finished  then.... Last night I finished another..... It is wool and flannel , the pattern is "Wooly Critter Sampler" by Brandywine Design...
