A Small Interuption

Image
I've had a small interuption to my sewing from the 2 1/2" box. Nothing major, needed a new iron that would produce a lot of steam! Better Homes and Garden highly recommended a CHI iron with 1700 watts and a titanium ceramic plate. Price was reasonable, so i succumbed.  I have had two Oliso irons and have been dissappointed in them both.  Rowenta is fine, I've had one of those, just thought I'd try something different. So far so good! Lots of steam with a lot of holes on plate. Not real heavy either! I've made all the block parts for my scrap quilt. With 24 of each piece made, I'm ready to start tommorrow putting it together.                 These are the first two rows sewn together. There was also a slight pause in my quilt sewing, because of a little squirrel sewing. Some placemats got into my way and I got a bit nutty about them. Couldn't stop at one but managed to get out four. On the plus side,...

Easter finish

Image
Usually I get my holiday project done after the holiday.  For once I have something done a week in advance!  The Easter design to embroidery is free from Bird Brain Designs .  I finished it and sent it to my little sister.  I put it on a kitchen towel as you may be able to tell. I also got my April block from Aurifil ready to do tonight as I watch tv.  It was Gail Pan's  month to design.  The fabric that I am useing is Late Bloomers by Sandi Gervais . Just in case you are wondering, I am for right now,  putting my rowenta travel iron  to work. And I am still working away on my 30's project.  All for now, talk to you later, martha

Smoke Detector Is Working

Image
My poor unfortunate husband , who for 30 years was a volunteer firefighter, got woke up in the middle of his night to the sound of smoke alarms going off!!  This was the culprit! look how metal bubbled! I was ironing  my small quilt blocks and in the midst of it I smelled fabric burning. As you can see it is scorched.  My iron started smoking and I smelled burning rubber. I turned the iron off and pulled the plug.  However that did not stop two smoke alarms from going off  first.  Hubby woke up and asked what I was doing? as I was turning on fans.  In our younger days having the fire dept. come to my house would have been grounds for divorce.  I quietly said I was sorry and skulked off to the basement to play with the computer and talk to you folks as a sounding board. Promised him I would stay out of trouble.  I  guess the rest of the blocks will be there when I get enough courage to go into the sewing room again. ...
