sew what's new?

  I have taken my "Coastal Lily" quilt to the quilter. It was queen size after two borders were added. I also made a flanged binding for when it returns. I've got some pics to share with you.... and the binding....   There were a lot of waste triangles from this quilt and they were saved. The triangles were 3" square and I  think I can get 36  blocks that are  8" square. I will still have some Half square triangles.  Here are the 11 blocks that I have so far....  I have a bag of circles left over also. I think I'll add those to the blocks also! I can't even imagine having this much leftover and disposing of it! We'll see what I can come up with. Be safe and be kind. Martha. I receive the blocks for Colorz Applique Group and got them put together. I put the additional borders on and have it ready to show the group on the 15th. The binding is the same fabric as the small inner border. I am also trying to keep up with Thimblecreek Gazette's new mystery quilt. It is Civil War themed. The first clue are these four blocks.... Working on some half square triangles at the moment. Project will also have a little wool on it too! Will have to show you you more when I am further along. Chatter with you later, Martha.

Crow Wing county fair starts this Tuesday and runs thru saturday , August 2nd.  Minnesota shop hop starts on Friday , August 1st.  I took my entries to the fair today early so that I might concentrate on my sewing today! I am volunteering to sell raffle tickets for our guild's raffle quilt on thursday and friday  at the fair. Now to my sewing... at first I started off with some  2 1/2" squares , some half square triangles and some four patches. I only had to make twelve blocks! I positioned them in the order I wanted them, with three rows of four....... Once I had them arranged and put together,  I quilted and bound the 18 1/2" by 24 1/2" small quilt. Here it is finished.... This quilt is called "Meandering " by Kim Diehl.  I am sure I will be chattering with you this week , all for now, Martha.

I prefer not to cut a square diagonally and sew two triangles together to make a square. I do not like those small points entering my sewing foot space or my feed dogs. Especially when I have to make 112 of them.  I prefer Jo Morton's method of cutting squares, marking two diagonal corners and sewing on each diagonal 1/4 " away from drawn line on both sides. Once all four lines have been sewn then comes time to cut! First cut a horizontel and vertical cross on your square. Then cut on your drawn lines that are diagonal. You now have eight half square triangles. You must now trim them to the size you wish. To do that I use My Eleanor Burns half triangle square up ruler! Love this ruler!! You leave square folded flat do not press yet. You will trim al sides at once , so coooool! I needed a three inch half triangle block so I put ruler with 3" marking on the seam line and cut both sides! Until I had a pile like this. Sweet! As my grandson wou...
