Sewing Sunday

Image
I have been working on my "Night Sky" ,pattern by  Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts. I have  six blocks  which I still have in two pieces. Here are the pics... So now I am up to ten blocks, halfway to the twenty needed for lap quilt.  I also finished two additional alternate blocks for my "Sunflower Gatherings" quilt by Primitive Gatherings Summer Block of the Week.  One of the things I purchased at the" Quilt Merchant" quilt store was a kit for a sampler of english paper piecing. I think I am going to put this on hold until after I finish  "Sunflower Gatherings".  I also added to my pre-cuts by purchasing two of the min charm packs...... All for this Sunday chatter later, Martha.

I have block #1 and block #2 ironed onto their backing square... So now I need to stitch them down. That will be my handwork for in front off the telly for those Pawn Stars, Shippers , Pickers, and History Channel war dramas. (That I cannot stand)  Mr. Sew What controls the remote!  I then started sewing the alternate blocks and finished two of the four.... when I took a break to go out and get the mail and put the clothes into the dryer from the washer.  Look what I got in the mail today.... #3. I guess I need to try a little harder, Martha.

Tool Time

Image
While on my visit to Illinois I was blessed by a trip to three quilt stores.  Each very different in location , merchandise, and owners. I learned quite a bit and enjoyed each very much for different reasons.  I would like to share some of my perchases.  The first is a tool that is going to help me control my scraps which are overflowing my container and spreading out. It  starts out as a ruler or template which comes in more than one size.     It is used with right 90* degree triangle papers (which also comes in more than one size co-ordinating with the rulers) It is very thin and tears away easily. Bonnie Hunter uses old phone books and cuts her own foundations.  And that is what this is a  foundation.  I am cutting my kite shapes from black scraps, not necessarily solid, but mainly reads black. I just randomly pick scraps from my bin. They do not have to be straight nor are they the same width or length. The black kite goes in the 90* corner. I add fabric to each sid

This is the face water fountain , different faces appear on it . At the moment it was a woman. Sometimes they wink and sometimes they smile at you and sometimes they blink. Then they spew water out. Water is always coming off it ,but sometimes it looks like they are spitting it at you! This is a pic of my son and I eating Gellato at an outside grill and restaurant. This is the view from my grandson's apartment. Chicago river Lake Michigan skyline Visitors were taking pics on top of this Bull, so we waited our turn. This is my son and his daughter and my granddaughter. This is my grandson and his girlfriend. My grandaughter and son. This statue of face has the top part off and sitting beside it. It sits across the street from the face fountain.                                         That is it for today, next I brought home treasures. I will share pics next time! Martha

Home But Not Settled

Image
We just got home tonight, still putting away and cleaning up. Thought I would give you  few pics so I do not overload in one post.   On the left  is the grand daughter who just graduated eighth grade , center is grandson who has new apartment in Chicago, on right is grandson's girlfriend Sarah! They had just begun planting flowers in the front of his building on the way to the dog park. I love the Chicago skyline. Beautiful architecture.  We went to see the Bean. Which is only 3 city blocks from his building. So we did a lot of walking. Chicago Ampitheater  on way to Bean is next to Millenium Park. The Bean.... This is all within Grandma distance walking three blocks. More pics later! Martha.
