Sew Kind Of Wonderful

Image
I had this last day before we go off to Illinois to sew. I have been a fan of Jenny Pedigo and her blog, sewkindofwonderful.blogspot.com   for the past two or three years. I finally purchased her Quick Curve Ruler and a pattern to try. You start off making nine patches. The ruler is used to cut away off four sides. Then we add more fabric backround fabric and square it up. We then add sashings ( curved mind you) to create a 12 1/2" block. Only 24 blocks to go.  This will be put on back burner for now.  Not my cup of tea.   Chatter later Martha.

Scrappy Fireworks

Well I finished the practice piece for the lone star and I enjoyed it. So perhaps when I come back after my trip I will start  a scrappy fireworks lone star (By Edyta Sitar).  This will be for my bed.  Anywau , here is photo of finished practice rop which is 36" x 36". Again click on pics if you want them larger. Chit chat later,Martha.

Going to See My Kids

Image
Mr Sew What and I are off on an adventure to see our kids and grands and collect them all to go see my mum. My mum lives at the tip of Illinois and my kids near the top. We do have a few other things on our agenda.  My grandson now lives in Chicago about 10 minutes from Millenium Park. So we are all going to hop a train and see his new digs.   I plan to see one of my quilting buddies and go to a quilt show one day and possibly go to Winfield to a quilt store owned by a french woman .  Lucky me! On the home front I have finished binding the last of the four quilts.  This one has blue minkee on the back.  It is the block exchange quilt from Brenda Peterson 's group. I am reading one of Eleanor Burns books on " Radiant Stars" or the lone star. I am starting with a four color star even though I happen to use only three fabrics. My block is a 10 1/2 " block. I like it! Might try a few more of these.  I have a pic of the back yard  and a very large woo

Two Nice Days In A Row!

Image
Today and yesterday have been  fantastic weather-wise , hope you are sharing this also! Mr. Sew What is out fishing for the day ,leaving me at home to do some more finishing up of projects. Hurrah!  I have put the binding on a third quilt and have it to show.... It is a Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts pattern. And a quick peek of the scrappy back in Lynn 's Kansas Troubles fabric . After all they are close friends. See it is labeled and ready ready for Prairie Women's Sewing Circle. I have also finished one more top that I was working on. I just need to get it quilted.... I have put the binding on the front of another quilt but have yet to sew it down, so I will show it to you next time.  Martha.

When it rains it pours

I had four quilts come back from quilting and they were all given out at different times. So I have been knee deep in binding and putting on labels. The first is my favorite, my handsewn hexies... Those are buttons on top of those yo yo's. There is a little blind on the right hand side too. I did a wavy edge and used what I put on my backing on the binding. As you can see it has a label too! This is my hand appliqued pitcher quilt from January's Quiltmania magazine. It is quilted and bound. It is also quilted and bound with a label.  My arm may break from all this patting of my back. I have been working on another Pam Buda quilt. These are the first two rows. I will show the two last quilts in the next post. Chatter later, Martha.

Gudrun Eurla of G.E. Designs

Gudrun Eurla will be teaching a class for our guild tomorrow and then  speaking in front of our guild later in the evening. We are all looking forward to hearing her. I will take her class also as I have one of the best bosses and has let her entire staff go to this while she mans the store. I have my bobbins wound and most of my stuff packed. However I would like to clean and blow out my machine before I pack it up. I have finished another embroidery block.... I have exchanged my month of September with another for this month on our block exchange for our guild.  I have some pics to show you.  The block I picked was from Bonnie Hunter's book " String Fling "  .   Sew several bright strips in varying sizes ( from 3/4" to 2" ) together. Each strip must be at least 8" long. Then press all seams in one direction. Cut one end even, making sure to get all selvages off. Even though I was sewing straight lengths of fabric, I turned my ruler so

Show and Tell

Image
First of all I finished another embroidered block and have it to show you.... I have also finished another small quilt from Pam Buda's Journey five , just needs to be quilted, as it is a flimsy at the moment. I used up some 10" squares of Kansas Troubles to piece a backing for this .... We had some beautiful show and tell from our  Prairie Women Sewing Circle group. Just awesome! Karen is hand stitching her star blocks! Bunny Witt's Pam Buda! Karen DeVries  nine patch. Karen DeVries civil war soldier's quilt. Mary Theurer with her wool and cotton applique. Colleen Both's bowtie quilt. So cute! Bunny Witt with embroidered pouch. Table runner from left overs by Bunny . Linda Johnson's baby quilt. She is so lucky to have twelve grandkids! We will chatter with you later this week, Martha.
