More of Wanda

Image
Isn't this a beauty...... such variety...... plaids and homespuns a 16 patch..... This is a photo of grand champion quilt at the DeKalb County fair in Illinois made and quilted by Sarah Duvick Stevens, a friend of both Wanda and myself. Congratulations! I hope you enjoyed the eye candy, Martha.

Wanda's Quilts

Image
I was so excited and mesmerized at looking at Wanda's quilts that I did not take pics of every one of them. But I did get some beauties! Just loved the paper mache zebra head! I will show some more in my next post. Martha.

A Trip Home

Image
I recently  made a trip home to visit my kids and grandkids. Which I throughly enjoyed of course! But I also went to visit with my first quilt teacher and the woman who inspired me to even start blogging. Wanda Hanson taught me all about a 1/4" seam allowance. This was back when we used cereal boxes for cardboard templates and Ginger scissors to cut out our pieces.  The rotary cutter was just beginning to come on the horizon. Little did I know the knowledge she gave me then would serve me for the next 40 years. She gave me a tour of her home and her sewing studios, which I am going to share with you.  Meet Wanda.... Here are some of her creations...... The computer never does the colors justice , now onto the sewing rooms. Yes rooms! She has two exquisite sewing spaces! The upstairs first.... See how neatly  she stores her batiks! There's more downstairs just as neatly displayed, very organized! I so many pics to share

Labor Day

Image
With Labor Day and Veteran's Day both ahead of us, I thought I would give my group something patriotic for our last class day next week .  Since our "Little Gatherings " project contains half square triangles so this must , but in a larger form. So from the 1/2" finished hst's , I went to 2" finished hst's. And of course since it is patriotic, the colors were red, white and blue.   For every one blue hst I made 2 red hst's. I then sewed them into rows. Once the rows were all joined I decided it needed at least 3 wool stars for added glitz. Top is finished and quilted , just need to finish the  cream colored binding.  It is a table centerpiece , measures  26 1/2" x 12 1/2". Summer is coming to a close with school opening soon, chatter later, Martha.
