DISAPPEARING 9 PATCH

A FRIEND HAD ASKED ME TO SHOW HER THE DISAPPEARING NINE PATCH BLOCK.  I DID NOT INVENT IT NOR DID ELEANOR BURNS, IT HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME. ELEANOR BURNS DID DO A BOOK ON IT THOUGH.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO ARRANGE THE NINE PATCH BEFORE SLICING IT , I WILL CHOOSE TO DO IT USING LIGHT, MEDIUM AND DARK VALUES.  TOTALLY  SCRAPPY WITH THE SAME COLOR  IN ALL MIDDLE BLOCKS  ARE  NEAT LOOKING ALSO!

YOU MAY USE ANY SIZE BLOCKS FOR YOUR 9 PATCH, EVEN 5" CHARM SQUARES IF YOU LIKE.  HERE I AM USING 3 1/2" SQUARES.

SEW ROWS OF THREE TOGETHER  AS YOU WOULD IN ANY 9 PATCH.. THEN SEW THE THREE ROWS TOGETHER AS ONE WHOLE BLOCK.    WHATEVER VALUE YOU PUT ON THE CORNER SQUARES WILL REMAIN THE LARGEST.

ONCE YOU HAVE THEM TOGETHER YOU WILL CUT BLOCK IN HALF LENGTHWISE.

THEN YOU WILL CUT THE BLOCK IN HALF WIDTH WISE. NOW YOU HAVE FOUR BLOCKS TO PLAY ANS RE-ARRANGE AND MAKE MANY DIFFERENT PATTERNS WITH.

ALL FOR NOW ,HAVE FUN AND PLAY!  MARTHA
