sew what's new?

I am progressing nicely with the hand applique  on my "Village square" by Kim Diehl. Here are pics before things were sewn done and just placed.... In  this last pic I have just begun to place berries.  I have 12 more berries to make and one whole side to sew done. But I am getting there. Plus there is one more round of borders. This quilt ends up to only be about 37" square when finished. So it is not that large. I will keep you up to date when I chat with you again!  I will be linking up to  Kathy's Quilts  .

I have been working on my churn dash blocks for my Kim Diehl's "Village Square" and have a finished center! This is the small quilt with no applique, but I have started the applique on two of the sides. As you can see here.... I will be working on this for a while, I will let you see its progression over the next few days.  I will be linking up with a  Scraps Monday:Tuesday Tip Edition   at a Quilting Life.

We were a small group that met Friday, but we more than made up with enthusiasm!  Linda Johnson  preparing her Lori Smith pattern. Sherry Falink working on her wool hexies. Paula Murrey working on her Dear Jane. We also had a couple of guests sit in for a while and enjoy our company.... I have started a new Kim Diehl quilt called " Village Square".  It has some applique on it and some churn dash blocks. I was working on the applique during our group.  I have squared up what blocks I have finished on my " Wooly Critter Sampler "  quilt and put some of the sashing on.  I am now working on block #9. I put some beads in the centers of the flowers instead of french knots.  Chatter with you later, Martha.

I promised that I would share my "Barn Stars" with you today and I will.  I have it quilted and binding sewn to front , but will hand  sew on to the back while watching tv. I sent my brother a birthday gift as his birthday was Feb. 14th,yes Valentine's Day!  I thought he deserved something red and hot ,so I sent him this... I was doing a little of slow stitching last night while watching Downton Abbey.Got this piece 1/2 the way done.... I made some more barn stars,but will wait and show those tomorrow. I made about six small block flannel squares. I followed Lori Holt's tutorial on her blog Bee In My Bonnet   . I will show a few steps, it is not that hard... Cut a 20 X 30 foam core board into six - 10" square pieces. You are going to be using a hot glue gun to fuse your batting to one side of foam core 10" square. I put the batting side down after fusing and used my rotary cutter and mat to trim away excess batting. I ironed a crease in 2 1/2 " wof  and used it as a guideline to bring each side into the middle. I then glued it to the side of the foam core and treated it like binding mitering the corners and overlapping the edges and gluing them down. I purchased some finger protector's for heat. There is a guild challenge for our quilt show in June.  It can be no bigger than 18" x 18" and must use some of the challenge fabric (does not have to use all). We can use any technique or pattern or embellishment. We pay $1.00 for an  8 1/2" x 11" fabric and can cut it up or color it as desired!  I have colored it as you can see below.... I have always believed that a woman is the heart of the home.  What she believes in and what her values are make a big difference in that home as it grows and developes.  More so than the income  or place of residence.  So I have started my mini quilt with a mother in the middle of my quilt.....  I finished putting on my crows on my flannel squares quilt I had started before Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt came into my life! What I also did was to use one of the stitches on my machine to put a few ants or bees on my sunflowers (I have not decided what they are yet, but they are bugs!)  I finished adding all my rows of square and ended up with a quilt about 94"  x  94". It is in line to be quilted as we speak!  Just a simple all over design for this one.  But I did choose some lovely varigated thread for it!  I also prepared block seven of my "Wooly Critter Sampler" as you can see here.... We had our last monthly meeting of our " Simple Whatnots I " group this past Tuesday. I believe we all had a good time. Linda Johnston and Mary  Amiot  each won a bundle of  9 patch blocks. So they are set to make another quilt if they wish.  Nancy Hall and Deb Whitlock each won thier choice of one of Kim Diehl's books. There was show and tell , which I hope to share with you here.... This is Dawn Leitch's " Pitcher quilt " pattern was in Quiltmania. Georgia did "Hopscotch" by Kim Diehl. She also knitted some quite cute American Girl doll clothes! Gail had sewn up two of Kim Diehl's patterns also! Gail also does sewing at her church and brought one of her donation quilts to show also..... Love her scrappy binding! This is Linda Johnston's little Kim Diehl quilt. Mary Amiot had quite a few small quilts from Kim Diehl's collection. She had them layered and reay to quilt! Busy lady.
