quilt show

Image
For those of  you that can't make it to the Quilt Show.... Three still need their binding on and the elephants still need their eyes and beads, but I still have time. June 21-22 at Crow Wing County Fairgrounds if you need some entertainment and a good time. Martha.

More Playing Around

Image
I found another block with a partial seam when putting it together' What fun!!  I thought I would use some of my Kaffe Fasset and make them colorful and happy!  The first seam is only about an inch and then proceed counter-clockwise, adding sides. Be consistent in the way you iron your seams. I always pressed towards the background  fabric. I am loving this!  I am going for at least ten more blocks! Chatter later, Martha.

Experimenting

Image
Have you ever wanted to try something you have never done before?  I have had the urge to try some new blocks, so I gave into that feelings. I first went to pinterest and found about 5 different plus blocks. I call them positive blocks. I think I might do a couple of  the blocks again, maybe each pattern in a quilt of their own. I had so many leftovers of the fabric especially many already cut up in 2 1/2"  x 6.5". So I felt I needed to find a pattern to use them up. I found one that was interesting as it was a partial seam, waiting to be finished after completely sewn three other seams. Don't know the name of  this block..... I had enough for 12 blocks worth and with a small 3 1/2" border. I really enjoyed the experimenting. However it did not stop there! I quilted it!!! I detest quilting a three layer sandwich, I enjoy piecing and creating a block or pattern. Our third Saturday's group leader, Brenda Peterson lets everyone come to the m

Third Saturday

Image
Third saturday club is this weekend, so I was scurring to get my mystery blocks done. I have them all put together to show you....                                 This is my row of 15 geese.                                         Outdoors pic                                             Indoors pic Most o the print fabric is Jo Morton's, as the rest o the blocks will be too!  I recently received my copy of "Quiltmania" in the mail, and wasn't interested in most of it. However even though Jen Kingwell is doing a mystery thru them, I did like one of the blocks she did in it. So I copied the one page directions for myself and gave the magazine in tack to someone else. I then went on and sewed up a couple of  these 4 1/2" blocks to remind me of what they looked like. I put the directions and sample blocks in a plastic bag and hung them up , so as not to loose them , for a later date. I just have to remember it will take 225 to make a 60&q

Watch Out For That Curve!

Image
I have been trying to slow down my pace at finishing projects. So I thought a project with curves might be the trick.  Cutting and sewing curves slow down quilters. So double the whammy. The pattern is called "Attitude Adjustment" by Cathy Wierzbicki of Time to Quilt.     My quilt will also be on the scrappy side also, and about 81" square. Right now I just have pieces and parts.  I made my four corner pieces.... and I made a pile of these assorted parts.... I know that I will need lots more... More of these too! We have some Canadian geese staying in our neighbors side yard.... Aren't impressed with me at all, chatter later, Martha.

Six HankyBlocks

I have before  and after shots of my handkerchief blocks to share with you.....  before after... before... after... before... after... before... after... before... after... before... after... only ten more blocks to go, before I can start putting them together. Chatter later, Martha.

Lap Quilt

Image
Finished up the black squares lap quilt from Villa Rosa and it was a sunny day so I first took a picture outside.....  Then took another inside.... The black squares are actually a combo of grey and black. chatter more later, Martha.

Been Busy!

Image
Been busy and productive this week. Found my elephant blocks that I have been looking for at least before Christmas.  And I have sewn them together to make a nice size for a crib quilt.  It also includes some English paper piecing..... I also sent three of these to my Aunt Bell  for her and my other two Aunts. I started a new lap  quilt  by Villa Rosa Designs called "Fortuna" which will be 50" x 61" when finished. This is one block , the smaller blocks that surround that grey/black texture weave are Basic Grey's new line "Nova". I have all 20 blocks made, now I need to work on the sashing. I have my quilt on a stick bound, but I still need to sew on the plastic worm.  I have also figured out what to do with my handkerchiefs..... I only have three blocks laid out for now.... I have plenty to work on for now, chatter more later.  Martha.
