Life Goes On

Image
I'm sure in this changing time of hardship for all, we are learning a lot about ourselves and others. Hopefully a bit of compassion will flow out from us to our fellow citizens and spouses.  We all have a lot to deal with. How we do it will say a lot about us. Patience and kindness will benefit us all during these coming months.  With that being said I have had my first CardioInversion last Friday, but it only lasted until Monday and my heart beat reverted. So now a new drug and an EKG on Thursday. Must check electrical impulses on heart to see if damaged. Then in two or three weeks there will be another try at another CardioInversion.  Again life goes on. Still in my sewing room and still working on that 2 1/2" stip bin. I think this is quilt number six from it. No two alike. I saw a picture on Pinterest and drew it up on graph paper. So no real pattern. Here is a picture of the block (10 1/2") square. I have some of the blocks put together with the sashing. N

Quilt of Gratitude

Image
After a few mis-steps , I finally have a finish to my log cabin Quilt of Gratitude. I sewed the last two rows to the wrong side of the four by four row square. You'll see with a picture.... So I did some frog sewing and ripped it out and put it back together! I also decided to only use a small 2 1/2" border instead of 3 rounds of 2 1/2" borders. I didn't need the extra length. Got the backing put together and ready for the quilter. I did start making masks. I have been making the ones with bread ties for bendable shapeing around the nose and pocket for extra filter.                    You can see wire in pocket before sewing it in. I made one from 100% cotton and one from flannel. I will be making more of these until my elastic runs out. Chatter later, Martha. P.S. I will be undergoing a Cardioinversion procedure this Friday morning. Prayers will be greatly appreiciated. Lord's will be done.

Sewing

What I've been up to..... I have gotten four rows together and have started on the last 8 blocks needed. Still have a few rounds to go on these. I have cut my binding strips and my border strips. I also need to iron my backing fabric. Bet you've been busy too! Want to try making a couple face masks and starting Edyta Sitar's sew a long. I printed out Gudren Eurla's sew a long pattern, but it is large peices and not very complicated. I think I can do that on my own. Chatter later, Martha.

Plugging Along

Image
I have the first eight blocks all sewn together, to form the first two rows. There are a total of six rows. I have also picked out a fabric that I will be useing for the border surrounding the rows. And I have an extra wide backing fabric so that I won't have to piece a backing. A much darker blue with stars. So right now I am working on that second batch of eight blocks. Eight blocks at a time doesn't seem so overwelming, more doable! Chatter later, Martha.

Quilt For A Veteran

Image
My Uncle Junior served in the Army  for at least 25 years . I believe he went to Veit Nam twice.  I know that I have one cousin that was born in Germany, because his family followed him when they could. He joined when he was 16 or 17, somewhere around 1949 or 1950. He was my mom's older brother and friend. He has never recieved a quilt from Quilts of Honor, Quilts of Gratitude, or Quilts of Valor. So I have decided to make him one myself.  I found a pattern that I liked, which is a log cabin type. I am going to make the lap size version for him which is a total of 24 blocks.  I have picked out my material  and started to sew up my 24-- four and a half inch star centers. I needed 20 of the red blocks and only 4 of the blue ones.  I took four of each color and started building my log cabins. The first eight blocks all have at least three rounds of logs on each side. They need four rounds. I will share my progress as I continue my self imposed exhil

Dresses!

Image
I am sewing about five dresses or the congo, that's what my church group had cut out when I arrived there last Tuesday.  I finished them yesterday....       One red , orange and yellow one                            Two of the blue ones   And two of the red/brown ones. They all have two pockets on them decorated with pretty buttons. I am not for sure if you can see that in the pictures. I will be taking them back next tuesday to be packed up for shipping.  I also got another quilt bound. I do have another quilt at the quilter's and one here that I am working on. I hope to have my sewing room cleared up with projects by the 27th of this month. All for now, Martha.
